1929 First radio beacon designed by Marconi signals off Kinnaird Head

It is not a well-known fact that Charles Stevenson was working on a way to broadcast radio signals to ships during bad weather that would enable them to steer clear of dangerous areas. The first radio beacon began broadcasting from Kinnaird Head on 20 March 1929. This was an attempt to improve upon fog signal apparatus that had been introduced in 1902 and ran on compressed air. The signal was broadcast in Morse code allowing mariners to fix bearings.
