1850 Robert Louis Stevenson born

Author of such classic works as 'Kidnapped' and 'Treasure Island' Robert Louis was the son of Thomas Stevenson who expected his son to become a lighthouse engineer. As much due to ill health as to reluctance he completed some training for the job but became an author. His celebrated life led him around the world and as such we are blessed with his literary works today.
