1824 Stevenson renovates Kinnaird Head and builds the lighthouse tower within the castle at Kinnaird HeadThe original lantern at kinnaird Head was very heavy and was damaging the walls of the castle. The rest of buildings attached to the side of the castle were demolished and a new lantern and new reflectors replaced the old ones, which were made of copper but coated in silver. The light at this time was still static. The spiral staircase that was erected inside the castle is part of Stevenson's conversion. To illuminate the light Stevenson used Argand burners, which were lamps with a hollow wick, invented in Switzerland in 1784. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
