Lightkeepers Duties 1973B.1. Changing Watch - A Lightkeeper on duty must remain on Watch until relieved. The relieving Lightkeeper, before taking charge, is to satisfy himself that the light is efficient, that the machine is wound up, and that everything is in order. A Lightkeeper going off Lightroom or Engine room watch must advise the relieving Lightkeeper of anything unusual that may have occurred during his Watch B.2. Cleaning - The optical apparatus, lantern panes and Lightroom machinery are to be thoroughly cleaned every day, particularly attention being paid to polishing the glass and bright work. If the glass is greasy it is to be washed with methylated spirits or approved detergent before polishing. When cleaning in the Lightroom has ben done everything should be left in readiness for lighting. Fog Signal, Radio Beacon and Radar Beacon machinery and equipment are to be cleaned and polished frequently so as to maintain a standard of cleanliness equal to that of the Lighthouse apparatus. Machinery should never br cleaned while it is in motion; if it is operated electrically it must be isolated before cleaning is commenced. The Principal Lightkeeper will be responsible for the rotation and the appointment of the days work among the Lightkeepers and for its efficient execution; he should assist in the work himself, so far as his duties permit.
