Austrailian Lighthouse Museums

Many of the lighthouses in Austrailia were directly influenced by the immigration of lighthouse builders from Scotland and England in the mid nineteenth century. These lighthouses also used the Chance Brothers optics.

The colonial architect for Austrailian lighthouses, and many public buildings, was James Barnett who arrived in Australia from Arbroath in Scotland in 1854.

Australian Lighthouses are now controlled by Lighthouses of Australia.

Below is a link to the Barranjoey Lighthouse which was built by Issac Banks and twenty Scottish masons using granite quarried from the local area in 1879. Before the stone tower was built two smaller wooden towers had stood on the penninsula.
